Winter 2020—A Variety of Local Suppliers


Now is the time for some armchair gardening.  Buying bare root, seed and plants that are grown in your own neighbourhood is a wonderful way to be kind to the planet (less air miles, fewer pesticides, less danger of importing disease etc) while celebrating and supporting the amazing growers on our doorstep.

For very healthy and strong bare root soft fruit, asparagus crowns, vines and rhubarb. Based in Blairgowrie, this family run nursery has a 60 year production history and very high standards.

Garlic grown on a farm in the Cawdor Hills in the Highlands. Gilli and Glen have high standards and sell a single variety of porcelain garlic very suitable for growing in the Scottish climate. Each bulb has about 6 cloves and is juicy and carries a tasty punch.

Pentland Plants have been family run for 50 years and each year supply the Warriston Plant Sale with a selection of bedding plants from their extensive, home-grown range. They sow, root and grow over 40 million plants per year!

One of the few nurseries in Scotland to grow their own bushes. Family run since 1958, they specialise in bare root roses of all colours and habit.

A number of Warriston plot holders already use this local compost maker. One of their most popular products is the Reshredded Mushroom Compost @ £4.95 per 50 litre bag. Farmyard manure is another hit @ £6.10. Their discount scheme begins mid – February.
