Warriston Allotments History
At a committee meeting last year there was a question about our site’s centenary year. Nobody knew for sure when it would be, so some research was done. What was discovered was a good amount of information gleaned from old minute books and correspondence, as well as newspaper archives, academic papers, and good old Google. What emerged was a fascinating insight into the history of our site and the changes and similarities from the 1930’s beginnings to the present day. It starts by looking at the area, allotment development in Edinburgh, and then Warriston itself. It is a long read, but the old photos are worth a look. Visiting artist
Kate Hajducka from Coburg House Studios has made drawings for years of Warriston Allotments from outside the site fence. She now regularly visits a friend's plot to create work in all weathers and seasons. You can see some of her delicately rendered and atmospheric drawings below.
